University of Toronto students select CDI as charity partner for special event

You are here

RCAS Cares is an annual philanthropic and networking event that brings together the University of Toronto’s top accounting students and Canada’s “big four” accounting firms.

Thank you to the Rotman Commerce Accounting Society for their donation to CDI’s Mothers in Mind program last November, through their annual RCAS Cares event. This lovely, energetic group of University of Toronto accounting students approached CDI last spring with a generous invitation to become their 2016 charity partner.

The charitable component of the event included raising cash donations through a “wear your jeans” initiative and creating holiday-themed gifts for families in CDI’s Family Violence Services.

The event also featured a keynote presentation delivered by Dr. Angelique Jenney, CDI’s Director of Family Violence Services. The delightful hand-crafted gifts included mason jar “hot chocolate” snowmen kits and texture books, which are perfect for mothers to share with their toddlers. The students also donated a few hundred gift packages, which included mittens, hand warmers and candy canes.

Event co-directors, Anna Hou and Joseph Youn said, “The philanthropic component of this event is very important to all of us. As future accounting professionals, we are honouring the accounting industry’s tradition of giving back to the community, and as students, we are demonstrating that everyone has the capacity to make a difference.”

CDI’s Family Violence clinicians had a wonderful time distributing these special gifts to our clients during December group sessions and at our family holiday party. Mothers in Mind is a group counselling program for mothers with children under the age of four who have experienced family violence and/or trauma.
