6-11: Social, Emotional, Behavioural Counselling Services

Intensive Family Support Program

Intensive family-based therapeutic program in support of at-risk children ages 6 to 11. CDI works with the whole family to complete a thorough assessment and develop a collaborative action plan.

Highly individualized, the action plans may include:

  • Individual, and family counselling
  • Specialized group services
  • Parenting strategies
  • Home-based coaching and support
  • School support and advocacy
  • Community support
  • Service coordination

If you are a youth, up to 18 years of age, or their parent or guardian, you can submit a referral for yourself or on behalf of someone else for intensive services (day treatment, live-in treatment or intensive in home treatment) to Help Ahead. Help Ahead will receive your request and can call your client or their family directly to discuss suitable options based on their needs and begin the intake process with them. School Day Treatment Program

School-based treatment program for children from JK to Grade 4 with significant emotional, social and behavioural challenges who have difficulty managing in their mainstream schools. Service includes family counselling, specialized parenting groups and in-home coaching and support.

The program utilizes a multi-disciplinary team structure that includes:

  • Special education teachers
  • Child and youth workers
  • An educational assistant
  • A family counsellor
  • A psychologist

Access to a consulting psychiatrist with other professionals as needed.

SNAP®

SNAP® (Stop Now And Plan) is an evidence-based cognitive-behavioural and social interactional learning program for children exhibiting significant disruptive, oppositional behaviour and emotional dysregulation impacting their functioning at home, school and community.

The program teaches children and their parents or caregivers how to manage their emotions and behaviour by utilizing strategies to stop, think and plan positive alternatives before acting impulsively.

SNAP® Clinical

Specialized multi-modal counselling and service coordination tailored for children engaged in disruptive behaviour that puts them at risk for more serious mental health issues and/or in conflict with the law and their families. Services are delivered by the gender that a child most identifies with.

Programming includes:

  • 13-week children’s group sessions (gender- tailored)
  • 13-week concurrent Parenting/Caregiver group to teach effective child management strategies
  • Growing Up Healthy component helps strengthen the parent-child relationship
  • Family counselling
  • Individual child counselling
  • School /academic support and advocacy
  • Individual Mentoring and Community Connections
  • Restitution
  • Service coordination

SNAP Youth Leadership program: post-treatment program to reinforce SNAP strategies and support transition to adolescence.

SNAP® for Schools

A 13-week in-class interactive digitized program part of CDI’s SNAP program, providing students ages 6 to 11 with the opportunity to develop SNAP skills via socio-emotional learning to promote positive behavioural change (such as healthy management of anger, bullying or peer pressure).

Camp Wimodausis

A specialized summer day camp for children ages 6 to 11 whose social and behaviour problems may prevent them from attending another summer day camp.

As part of SNAP® Program offerings, children learn to better manage their behaviour, exercise self-control and resolve problems while participating in fun and educational activities, including arts and crafts, sports, nature hikes and more.
