Support children’s mental health this September

“The consistent school environment gave our son a chance to experience success. CDI changed everything.”

– Mom, School Day Treatment Program

Will you give a child a second chance this school year?

At just 6 years old, James* stopped attending school when his severe behavioural challenges became too much to manage in a traditional classroom. His parents were overwhelmed and heartbroken as they watched the spark in their bright, curious son begin to fade.

Fortunately, James found hope through CDI’s School Day Treatment Program, where mental health professionals, educators and families work together in a therapeutically-based classroom to help children from JK to Grade 4 better manage their behaviour and emotions, develop social skills, and enhance self-esteem.

From the very first visit, we felt hope again. The staff knew how to reach James with structure, compassion, and consistency. He started attending full days, enjoying school, and believing in himself again.

Last year, James re-integrated into a mainstream school and graduated Grade 5. For his family, it was more than a milestone. It was a turning point they never thought possible.

As a new school year begins, falling behind, withdrawing, and acting out can be more than academic concerns — they are often signs of underlying mental health challenges. But the right supports can make a BIG difference.

This September, your gift can give more children like James a second chance — connecting them with the mental health support they need to thrive in the classroom and beyond.

James’s story is one of thousands. In Ontario, 1 in 5 children and youth experience mental health challenges, yet many go untreated due to long wait times, underfunded services, and systemic barriers. Last year, CDI reached more children and youth than ever before, responding to this growing need with a holistic range of services — from early learning and mental health counselling, to trauma supports and therapeutic recreation.

With school back in session, your support will ensure that more families can access CDI’s life-changing services when it matters most.
