Camp Towhee Returns to In-Person Adventure and Arts-Based Programming Supporting Children and Youth with Learning Disabilities and Mental Health Issues

TORONTO, ON—Child Development Institute’s (CDI) Camp Towhee, a leading provider supporting children and youth with learning disabilities and mental health issues (LDMH), is excited to announce in-person summer programming is back, starting at the beginning of July.

“After two years of virtual programming, we are returning to in-person summer programming at Towhee. Camp Towhee endures, just like our campers.,” said Harry Wenban, CDI’s Camp Towhee Director. “The question we received the past two years was “When is Towhee opening again?”, so we know how special Towhee is for our families. It’s our home away from home, it’s the place where we belong just as we are, and it’s the place that we can all experience successes that previously
seemed impossible,” added Wenban.

Today, families face a huge mental health crisis as a massive number of children and youth report having anxiety, depression and self-regulation issues. Evidence shows that by intervening early, children and youth can receive the help they need and increase their chances to reduce mental health challenges later in life.

Our specially trained Camp Towhee counsellors are ready to welcome our campers to an outstanding camp season! Through Towhee’s immersive adventure and artsbased programming our campers build positive coping skills, self-esteem, and connections among peers in a positive, safe camp environment for all.

As part of the CDI’s evidence-informed LDMH services, Camp Towhee has been the camp solution for families for over 50 years to help their children and youth foster confidence and build life-long skills.
